Ryan Polasky (/ˈraɪ.ən pəˈlæski/; ); born 2004) is an American software engineer[1] and electronic musician.[2] He has worked on developer tooling and natural-language database interfaces during two internships at Apple Inc. in 2024 and 2025.[3]
Polasky's published output groups loosely into three recurring areas: backend infrastructure, the integration of large language models into existing engineering workflows, and personal websites whose engineering scope is generally disproportionate to their audience.[5] As of May 2026, he is, by his own statement, available for full-time employment;[5]citation needed this article does not constitute a job listingbut functions as one.
Outside of software, Polasky records lo-fi instrumental music under the artist name plasky[2] and maintains a public corpus of computer-science course notes and curriculum materials from his time at the University of Texas at Dallas, hosted on his personal website.[6]
Early life and education[edit]
Polasky's early life is the subject of relatively limited public sourcing, as the subject has at various times declined to disclose his specific place of birth.privacy preference Some biographers have inferred a Northern upbringing on the basis of his demonstrated ability to discuss windchill at a level unbecoming of a current Texas residentoriginal research?; this article does not endorse the inference.
He attended public schools before relocating south to attend the University of Texas at Dallas, where he is enrolled as a fourth-year student in the Department of Computer Science.[7] He is expected to receive a Bachelor of Science in May 2026.[7]
While at UT Dallas, Polasky has maintained an open public archive of lecture notes and curriculum materials, written in LaTeX and Notion, which is available at ryanpolasky.com/notes.[6] Faculty have not commented on whether they consider this redistribution of pedagogical material to be flattery or copyright infringement; both interpretations are consistent with the public record.according to whom?
Career[edit]
Polasky's professional career began in 2021 with a high-school IT internship at Altru Health System, and has since progressed through two engineering internships at Apple Inc., in addition to leadership roles within student technical organizations. As of May 2026 he has not yet held a full-time engineering role, on the technicality that he has not yet graduated.[7]
Apple Inc.[edit]

Camera API Test Automation Intern (May–August 2025)
From May to August 2025, Polasky was a Camera API Test Automation Intern in Cupertino, California.[3] During the engagement he built an automated parsing system for thousands of on-device Camera and Photos tests, and integrated large language models into the test-triage pipeline. The integration was credited internally with producing a 4,800% reduction in manual investigation time. He also shipped a unified bug-report generator that automatically attached relevant failure artifacts.
WTE Tools Engineer (June–November 2024)
Earlier, from June to November 2024, Polasky served as a Worldwide Tools Engineering intern at Apple, where he built an LLM-powered chat interface and a Python package for translating natural language into SQL and NoSQL queries - work that would later be publicly described as AskDB.[8] He additionally migrated internal services from Java 11 to JDK 21, addressed associated security vulnerabilities, and designed CI/CD pipelines on AWS and GCP. He optimized an iOS log analyzer for real-time rendering, which one team member described as “the part where the screen stopped melting”.citation needed
At-Home Advisor (August 2023–present)
Concurrently with his studies, Polasky has worked remotely as an Apple At-Home Advisor since 2023, maintaining a 6.87% escalation rate (well below department average) and a customer satisfaction score reported as 15% above the department mean.[9] He received the Apple Excellence Award in both 2024 and 2025.
Association for Computing Machinery at UT Dallas[edit]
Polasky served as Development Lead within the Association for Computing Machinery chapter at UT Dallas from 2025 to 2026.[10] In that role he mentored more than 1,200 participants at HackUTD, the chapter's annual hackathon, where he is reported to have spent a single overnight session debugging projects belonging to approximately 60 teams, a number which is high enough to constitute either dedication or a controlled scientific experiment in sleep deprivation.citation needed
He was the technical lead on MeteorMate, a full-stack roommate-matching platform built on React, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL,[11] and was selected to mentor four underclassmen through internship preparation.
Altru Health System[edit]
Polasky's first formal employment was as an IT intern at Altru Health System in Grand Forks, North Dakota, from 2021 to 2022.[12] During the engagement he deployed more than 300 devices in support of a healthcare-system expansion and is reported to have set the department's intake record during a high-demand period - a record which, per available sourcing, has not since been broken.citation needed
Notable works[edit]
Further information: List of repositories by Ryan Polasky
Polasky maintains an extensive portfolio of small, opinionated software projects. The following are the most frequently referenced.
AskDB[edit]
AskDB is a natural-language interface to relational and document databases, prototyped during Polasky's 2024 internship at Apple.[8] The system is described as schema-aware and cost-aware, meaning it attempts to plan queries that are correct given the underlying schema and reasonably fast given the underlying indexes - two properties not historically associated with the phrase “I asked the AI to write a query.” The current implementation is internal to Apple and is not publicly available.
ai-test-analysis[edit]
ai-test-analysis is an LLM-driven failure classifier and root-cause suggester used in the on-device Camera API test pipeline.[3] The system ingests test logs, classifies failures into known modes, and proposes candidate root causes for human review. It is the project most directly responsible for the previously cited 4,800% reduction in manual investigation time.
RyanOS / WRUT[edit]
RyanOS, also published under the name WRUT (What's Ryan Up To?), is a personal status dashboard with draggable widgets, mini-games, and an in-app economy.[13] It is implemented as a desktop-style web environment using React, FastAPI, and Framer Motion, and is publicly accessible at status.ryanpolasky.com. It is the only known personal status page to include a fully functional currency.
plasky[edit]
Under the artistic name plasky, Polasky has released lo-fi electronic music on streaming platforms since 2023.[2] The project's discography is produced in FL Studio. Genre classification is approximate; Polasky has, on multiple occasions, declined to commit to one. See also: Music career.
MeteorMate[edit]
MeteorMate is an open-source roommate-matching platform for students at UT Dallas, of which Polasky is the technical lead.[11] The system pairs prospective roommates using preference vectors and is implemented in FastAPI and React. The frontend and backend repositories are hosted under the ACM at UTD organization on GitHub.
Independent web projects[edit]
Polasky maintains a number of small independent web applications, including:
| Title | Description | Stack | First release | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Crashdle | Daily 5-letter word puzzle paired with a live crash-multiplier bonus round. | Web (single-page) | 2024 | Public, free.[14] |
| ryplay | Real-time music dashboard powered by Last.fm; visualizes listening habits and streaks. | React, Last.fm API | 2024 | Public, free.[15] |
| RyMe.md | Browser-based generator for animated GitHub profile README banners (SVG / GIF, fully client-side). | SVG, JS, client-side rendering | 2024 | Public, free.[16] |
| Notes | Public computer-science course notes from UT Dallas, presented as a digital garden. | Notion, LaTeX | 2023 | Public.[6] |

Style and influences[edit]
Listeners have variously described Polasky's lo-fi output as “ambient”, “downtempo”, “jazz-adjacent”, and “the kind of song that plays during the part of a coding video where the cursor blinks.”attributed to whom? The artist has cited Kalaido, Kaz Moon, and his IDE startup chime as influences.[2]
Production is conducted by hand in FL Studio, the project having existed as a hobby since 2021 and been published on streaming platforms since 2023.[2]
